MattHOST
6:38
Mm-hmm.
TylerHOST
6:38
Like, I mean, Solid Snake live action would be kinda sick.
MattHOST
6:42
Yeah.
MattHOST
6:43
Yeah.
Alex FrioliHOST
52:47
Well, of course, you
Ray BarnholtHOST
52:48
remember in MGS4, Old Snake and Otacon are basically seemingly just like living on a plane in the sky most of the time.
Alex FrioliHOST
52:59
Oh, yeah.
Alex FrioliHOST
53:00
Yeah.
Mike HowardHOST
14:43
Well, like, that was more on the art side.
Mike HowardHOST
14:45
I think that was Kojima getting in his bag and trying to do something a little bit different, right? Uh, a little bit that had different tones, a different theme, the, a different vibe than what we're all used to of, like, "Hey, let me just be Solid Snake and hold a sniper rifle and go crazy out on a battlefield," right? Like, this was not that style of game.
Mike HowardHOST
15:03
And so maybe revenue expectations should've been different, but I'm sure when you look at that game, the budget was probably-
Madeline StanleyGUEST
15:09
Yeah
Dan DawkinsHOST
34:06
Not quite Metal Gear Solid style.
Dan DawkinsHOST
34:08
I don't think you'll be under a box or, you know, doing some of the things Solid Snake does.
Dan DawkinsHOST
34:12
But to, to go in with an optimum stealth approach.
Dan DawkinsHOST
34:15
17:30, this scene actually made me gasp in our live reaction.
MartyrusHOST
16:39
It's also fourth in the mainline series and eighth in the timeline.
MartyrusHOST
16:44
You'll play through two chapters, the first one as Solid Snake infiltrating a hijacked Marine Corps ship to find evidence of a new mecha named Metal Gear Ray.
MartyrusHOST
16:57
The other chapter takes place at the Big Shell, an offshore cleanup facility where you enter as a foxhound agent named Raiden.
MartyrusHOST
17:07
The President of the United States is being held hostage by the Sons of Liberty, a terrorist organization that seized the facility and threatened to blow it up if their demands are not met.
MartyrusHOST
19:10
I guess it was because of the fact that during the trailers and previews, they showed another character that you also play.
MartyrusHOST
19:17
I admit I had my reservations.
MartyrusHOST
19:20
Because I was so used to having Solid Snake being the main protagonist and only protagonist that I would play in any Metal Gear Solid game.
MartyrusHOST
19:31
Perhaps now I'll consider going back and playing the game.
NateHOST
10:36
Even remotely.
NateHOST
10:38
And so here's the thing that brought this up to me when, when we're pl- when I was playing it, is they make heavy mention, as we all know, we all know that Liquid Snake and Solid Snake are clones of Big Boss.
NateHOST
10:52
That's, like-
RemyHOST
10:53
Yep
TrevorGUEST
75:18
Yeah, it's a bold statement that's at that point in time, in the PS2 era, didn't get a whole lot of that.
TrevorGUEST
75:27
Every once in a while, especially these days, we keep circling back to that as something that people have a message about, about the the cost of like digital deaths and whatnot like was it spec ops the line had the the white phosphorus sequins and stuff but that was the 360 era then of course like the last of us 2 in particular like really like almost like sledgehammer blunt like just like smacks you in the face with it over and over and over again uh to the point of like by the time you get to the end of it just like okay i got it but good message little little ham-fisted but um metal gear also has the one of the cooler game over screens when it comes to gaming snake snake like they recorded so many versions of that that it almost in its own way it's a little bit of a reward because you get all these different voice clips of people sad that you're gone nobody's mad at you nobody's mad that you failed they're sad that Solid Snake is dead and I don't know it adds a little extra layer of something there a mechanic I wanted to toss out was I guess I'd call it like proxy death where it's like some sometimes it's it's probably one of the most frustrating ways to fail honestly because it's it's the it's not my fault it's the Lando Calrissian it's not my fault where it's like actually the first example that came to mind was Yoshi's Island I don't know if you guys ever played that one.
TrevorGUEST
77:12
It's from the Super Nintendo days, so it's a while ago, but Yoshi's Island is a great game.
TrevorGUEST
77:17
Late era Super Nintendo.
JakeHOST
49:46
I'm beating a dead horse on this, but the fact that Mario Kart World was not Super Smash Kart with DLC character bundles where they're like in...
JakeHOST
49:56
You know, at the end of the direct, it's like in the next character coming to Mario Kart is Solid Snake and you can race around the fucking the jungle or the wilderness and you can unlock costumes for your me where they wear the bandana and there's music that's added in the whole nine yards is such a missed opportunity.
JakeHOST
50:16
Sure.
JakeHOST
50:16
Yeah,
speaker_2UNKNOWN
22:22
Yeah.
Matt HewsonHOST
22:22
You're spending time with a good old mate, Solid, aren't you? Solid Snake.
Matt HewsonHOST
22:27
Yep.
Tim HendersonHOST
22:28
Old being the thing, we just had cool tunes, a bunch of 40-year-olds deciding what cool tunes are these days.
Ray StekanisHOST
64:43
I'm going to do it.
Ray StekanisHOST
64:45
Unlike the end result of James Bond versus Solid Snake, this fight would end in a tie.
Ray StekanisHOST
64:51
However, one thing that caught my attention was that Garrett took out an assortment of really strong opponents while drunk.
Ray StekanisHOST
64:57
Now, if someone tried doing that in real life, they'd get wrecked like crazy, realistically speaking.
