Solemnity

because we don't have the fullness of getting to experience the bridegroom yet.

The church says we're supposed to fast every single Friday, except for certain solemnities, like St. Joseph's Solemnity falls on Friday, which basically is every Friday of the year, except maybe three or four.

That's not Father Caleb.

That's the church that Jesus started.

Amen.

And today, in the month of Our Lady of Sorrows, the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary, tomorrow we will celebrate her Solemnity.

And today the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, also called the Triumph of the Cross, the Elevation of the Cross or Holy Cross.

This feast was observed in Rome in the 7th century and it commemorates the recovery of the Holy Cross with Saint Helena at place on Mount Calvary and our Mother Church signs of the triumph of the cross, the instrument of our own redemption.

the famous courtesan Benedicta, still fresh from the bath of blood to which she had submitted herself, sitting below the scaffold where the victims provided for that purpose were slaughtered by the priests.

Even on the last day of the Solemnity, when the Emperor himself performed one of the oldest ceremonies of the Roman religion, this fantastic piety had asserted itself.

There were victims enough, certainly, brought from the choice pastures of the Sabine Mountains, and conducted round the city they were to die for in almost continuous procession, covered with flowers and well-nigh worried to death before the time by the crowds of people superstitiously pressing to touch them.

But certain old-fashioned Romans in these exceptional circumstances demanded something more than this, in the way of a human sacrifice after the ancient pattern, as when, not so long since, some Greeks or Gauls had been buried alive in the forum.

I did find that it was like his kindness that leads you to repentance.

So there was the, you know, Solemnity of Good Friday, but it was also the beautiful Venn diagram of it.

Like it was the darkest day, but also the most beautiful day.

I think because my heart was prepared for that because of a season of that, it was different.

I'll give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven." So that has literally just happened, and you can hear that on the 21st Sunday in ordinary time.

It's also read on all sorts of feast days, so the Feast of Saint Peter, uh, the Solemnity of Saint Peter and Paul.

So that is a very famous passage, and you can hear it all throughout the liturgical year.

That leads straight into today.

Yeah, I died to Dark Depths last night, actually.

Now, they created it with Solemnity.

Well, I died to it twice in the finals of our local Canlander tournament, where the first time was with just Solemnity.

Didn't even see that coming.

Forgot that card existed.

And so we see how this connection of assumption to queenship truly lines up theologically.

In our parish, Queen of Peace, we celebrate the 25th of June as the Solemnity of the Queen of Peace, as it is that day that Mary for the first time revealed herself as the Queen of Peace in the apparitions that have been approved in Medjugorje.

However, the Queenship of Mary bespeaks to us Mary's advocacy, her intercession, and her specific maternal care that she shows for us.

So first of all, her advocacy.
