Soldier

So my number three is a movie from 2002 called It's an action horror movie, and it's definitely a survival horror movie, too, but it's got a shitload of fucking action in it.

It is called Dog Soldiers.

Uh, but when you put somebody in a situation where you're stressed, you're doing something you haven't done before, you have 10 other human beings or nine other human beings looking at you who also have been training hard, also have been preparing, also believe they deserve a shot, that's, that's a lot of pressure for somebody so young, and of course you're gonna make mistakes.

So I learned it's okay, I don't have to know everything, but I have to be a great listener.

But can you pay for it?

Here is money.

It takes the structure from Terminator.

Don't be mad at it for ripping off Terminator because Terminator ripped off Demon with a Glass Hand and Soldier and Harlan Ellison won that lawsuit.

Some years ago, before Terminator came out, I began to hear from people, gee, there's this script that they're going to shoot that reads an awful lot like your script for Soldier that you did on Outer Limits years ago.

Now, Soldier had, of course, been available on videocassette for many years Demon with a Glass Hand, which I did for Outer Limits, had won all the awards, but Soldier was right there in popularity.

So we applied to Hemdale Films for a copy of the script.

And they refused to let us see it.

65.5 or 75.5, something like that, with an additional $5,000 to be paid to me after a period of time that was stipulated in the contract agreement if I did not speak of any of this.

The other part of the contract agreement, which was very important, was that every copy of the film thereafter, whether on videocassette or Laserdisc, on cable TV or commercial TV, would say the producers wished to acknowledge the works of Harlan Ellison.

The soldier when questioned regarding his rank stated that he was discharged as a sergeant and consequently re-enlisted with such rank and that he was paraded after re-enlistment and told he was a King Sergeant.

Cable communications were forwarded to Australia concerning this soldier's rank to which a reply was received stating he held the rank of private.

The Chief Paymaster is now in communication with the Depot Paymaster in regard to the alteration of Soldier's rate of pay and the amendment of the pay book.

On the 17th of September, a copy of communication was received in this office and forwarded to the No. 2 Command Depot, which communication stated that Robertson was then wearing the badges of rank of CSM and that Soldier stated he had been awarded the DDM and MM badges.

In regard to the application for DCM on a charge of the wearing of sergeant's chevrons to which he was not entitled, it is understood that owing to circumstances surrounding the granting of the rank of sergeant, it is not now proposed to take disciplinary action and that the witness has asked for in communication dated the 21st that it is now not required.

So again, in his army record, it states that Private A.W. Robertson of the 13th Battalion returned to Australia on the HMAT Sardinia on the 31st of December 1918 in consequence of medical unfitness deemed on the 11th of May 1919.

That's what I've heard.

And I watched Soldier, which is Kurt Russell as a super soldier, sort of like a Blade Runner.

Actually, it's written by one of the writers of the Blade Runner screenplay.

Kind of an offshoot of Blade Runner.
