Why this?

I love Bach, and I go to his music for all sorts of reasons.

For pleasure, but also for troubled times because his music will give me often a sense of something beyond my own existence, and I love his choral music and his instrumental music.

I play some things by Bach on the piano.

I discovered this pianist, Vikingur Olafsson, actually in quite recent years in, I think, hearing him play it on the BBC.

This piece, I listened to it a lot right at the beginning of COVID when I and Vassilis, my husband, were in Athens and both our daughters were in London.

And it's very easy to forget that time of almost terror: the idea that my girls were far off, and then all flights were stopped, and the birds were singing.
