Socket AM4

So yeah, based on that, Zen 6 does really need to deliver the goods, doesn't it? We really do need a massive performance uplift for this generation for AM5 not to look like a flop because...

AM5 from AM4 wasn't exactly a massive step forward given the fact that it required DDR5 memory, new motherboard, quite a big investment there.

The sort of Ryzen 5 7600, Ryzen 7 7700 certainly upon release and probably up to this point are roughly on par with like a 5800X 3D for gaming.

So to get the reasonable step forward, you really did have to buy at minimum a 7800X 3D.

Yeah.

So pretty big financial investment to go from a 5800X 3D, which is why so many people are like, I'm holding out an AM4.

AM5 has nothing for me at this point.

Like, they've been much bigger on commercial, and I think they kind of feel confident to wait things out on the desktop front.

Yeah, I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like the sentiment around AM4, now AM5, is that AMD is generally firing on all cylinders.

Yes, they make some weird marketing mistakes or pricing questions, things like that.

But for the most part, I feel like a lot of people are like, oh, you look towards AMD first when you look to build a system and put your CPU in it.

I think Arrow Lake Refresh is a really great example of Intel trying to win back some favor.

Those are really good chips, especially for the price.

But when you take the whole package, the socket support, the system you maybe already have, a lot of people still on AM4.

It's hard to make that decision to jump ship to Intel, especially right now where they have air like refreshes on a dead-end platform.
