Snowy River

Another part of the state that's looking for some spring rain is East Gippsland.

Royston Nettleton's family have been farming along the Snowy River near Orbost since the 1960s.

Royston told me they caught some good rain at the weekend, but they would love to have some more over the next month to really feel confident going into summer.

Yeah, we're in Beepalong.

It's incredibly physical, yet a day trip can be anywhere from a couple of hours to the whole day.

When we go on the multi-day trips, the highlight of the multi-day trips, we do the Snowy River each year.

We start up near the New South Wales border and paddle out over four days.

We do it with a big group of people, so there's that lovely sense of camping on the riverbank.

The next November, so this was New Year's Eve, and I'd made it through to November.

We go away, Melbourne Cup weekend, first weekend in November.

So that's when the big snowy river trip is.

So I wasn't in my little kayak.

Yep.

Marlow is a holiday and fishing village at the mouth of the Snowy River.

Bet you that's where the Snowy River caravans come from.

Maybe.
