When Kim Monson asked whether the girl would still have to earn her place, Burke answered, of course, adding, she would have to earn her spot on that team.

Burke won 15 Colorado state championships in cross-country and track at Smoky Hill High School and two NCAA titles at the University of North Carolina.

And she was inducted into the Colorado High School Activities Association Hall of Fame in 2024.

She founded Athletes for Action with Paula Scanlon and others.

The control of sexuality, the control for STDs, the control for not getting pregnant, it was all stemmed from fear.

And we all know that far too well, being millennials, having the 9/11 crisis start, having the gun violence at Columbine, right? I remember I was a freshman at Smoky Hill High School when Columbine shooting happened.

We all remember when all of this started, when things went off the rails of behavior and the global impact of acting and living in fear, of suppression, of control, of afraid to actually enter the emotional state of something that makes you afraid because you're not sound enough in your nervous system to hold the space for whatever that thing is, because you are living in your inner child toxicity trauma of this didn't feel safe then, so now as an adult I don't know how to provide the safe container for you, so I'm gonna raise a generation out of fear, which means I'm gonna suppress, I'm gonna control.

We're gonna give you sexual education, but not talk anything about pleasure and the intimacy behind it.
