I stayed there until 99 and then I went I stayed home for a couple of years and I had a hunter talk me into, well, I did go down to the Absaroka-Baratus and I spent a year in the Absaroka-Baratus, southern Montana, up above Slough Creek on Buffalo Forks.

And then I went down to the Washakie Wilderness in Wyoming And at that time, that was the best wilderness elk hunting that I ever saw.

And I don't know how it is now.

My itinerary felt foolproof.

I would spend three days following Slough Creek toward the plateau, taking pictures of the autumn foliage, and if I was fortunate, finding a few elk before the major snowfalls arrived.

A ranger at the station in Cook City had warned me about heightened grizzly activity around the berry patches.

But after carrying bear spray for years without once having to use it, I had honestly begun treating warnings like that as background static.

Biologists will remove invasive rainbow trout using a chemical called rotenone.

The park says the water at the downstream Slough Creek campground will still be safe to drink.

Rainbow trout are out-competing and hybridizing with the park's only native trout species, that's Yellowstone cutthroat.

By removing rainbow trout from Buffalo Creek, the park says it'll protect the native cutthroat in several other streams and rivers in the Lamar River watershed.
