Sleeping bag

That shit is legend.

Yeah, The Sleeping Bag.

Well, they really went for it, though.

The kills in this show were all pretty fucking memorable.

I came across a small story out of Beaver Creek, Ohio, and I haven't been able to shake it.

At Hawker United Church of Christ, a group called My Brother's Keeper has spent about two decades sewing sleeping bags for people experiencing homelessness in Greene County.

When the weather turns, the place becomes almost a little factory.

Volunteers stacking fabric, sewing, packing.

They make about three dozen sleeping bags a month, and each one, they say, is packed with a prayer.

But here's the part that stopped me.

One of the volunteers, Pam Souder, was watching a TV interview from a local shelter called Bridge House during a really cold winter.

And behind the person being interviewed, she could see sleeping bags on the cots.

There's approximately 20 people in his troop.

Last month, she was washing his sleeping bag.

I found

a pair of women's underwear in his sleeping bag when I was washing it after he had just gone out on a trip.

I told him that I was cleaning the sleeping bag out and that I found the underwear.

And he just he told me that that was impossible.

And then he was like, well, they weren't for me.

That must have been the sleeping bag that I got from my friend Tony.

You know, this morning especially was-

And you got to try out the Peak's sleeping bag-

I did

... you said you liked.

[laughs] Yeah.

But I think it's as warm as my Stone Glacier zero degree down bag.

So one of the things about the Peak sleeping bags-

Yeah

But we're just thinking of ways to save that money because these trips are expensive.

Now, moving on to sleeping bags and rucksacks.

These are real big, expensive items and really important items as well.

Sleeping bags are really important because the quality of sleep that you get on a trip does matter.

So sleeping bags and sleeping mats, that really does make a big difference.

You want to make sure that you're getting a good amount of sleep on these trips and then You know, you're feeling fresh and ready for the next day.

It's a bit easier if you go into a warmer environment.

Um, you know, but if you are heading somewhere that is going to be really cold, uh, so Salconte trek when it's the Salconte pass, uh, or, or, you know, Everest base camp or Kilimanjaro as popular as they are, you know, and keep using them as examples, then you are going to want to make sure that you've got a sleeping bag that is warm enough, um, and has the required temperature rating.

Right.

Zip up each other in our sleep sacks.

But the sleep sack works.

You could get one.

No, man, I, I cannot be hot in a good sleep.

No, I can't.

Heated sleep sacks, that'd be awful.

No, but, like, if your room is freezing cold and it's freezing cold outside.

And that's like Stay All Night, Stay a Little Longer.

And Devil in the Sleeping Bag is a fun song.

I shouldn't go over everything here.

I like that one.

It's about his drummer, Paul English, who is known as the devil.

Because he kind of looks

like the devil and if you wake him up at the wrong time he acts like the devil and it's like being on the road and don't wake the devil in the sleeping bag, which is him and And he's shivering in his sleeping bag, so stay away from him.

When you know that, the song makes sense.
