Slane Castle

Well, don't forget, in addition to all the Rebo stuff, they have a lot of the video from 85.

They showed a lot of the Slane Castle.

They showed Cadillac Ranch at one of these presentations about a year ago.

They also have Rotterdam from 88.

So U2's Bad started with The Edge noodling around on a guitar riff at Slane Castle.

Three takes later, they basically had the song.

Then came Live Aid in 1985.

So it's a pretty high level of insurance.

And we do have the highest level in Ireland because we're the only nanny agency that can cover Slane Castle.

I've bought all the records so far.

seen them on pretty much every step of their career to this point in terms of like the venue sizes that they've gone through playing Tuts and then SWG3 then the Barrowland famously on the day that we beat Ferencváros in the afternoon um and then the academy um oh no i didn't see in the academy i saw the corn exchange in edinburgh saw them at transmit and then i saw them in italy at a festival called uh la prima estate which was incredible like 10 000 people in italy going nuts to them like that's two years ago and then yeah i'm going to go to slain castle next next year i've never been a gig at slain castle so i always wanted to go and who better? There's not actually been that many gigs at Slane Castle, to be honest, because there's not many bands that can sell enough tickets to fill it.

And they're doing two nights.

I don't know, maybe Liam's just contrary, isn't he? Sometimes he'll answer questions that people ask him on Twitter.

They're going to take place next year.

with I think two nights at Slane Castle and they're also playing the London Stadium which is you know where I saw Metallica this summer just gone so that's big and that's the last time I went there I saw the weekend time before that I saw Guns and Roses so that's the kind of company that Fontaine's DC are now keeping themselves within and um they are basically set up i think to be the next big glastonbury guitar band headliners on the pyramid stage and all of that context sort of smoshed together means that depending on your point of view there's either a lot of pressure on this album or they're they've already done it and they can kind of release albums to various diminishing returns i mean i feel like for me it's the former uh i think they need to get this one right and i think if they do get this one right they can set themselves up for the rest of their career because there are those bands that don't really have to release good music anymore and they remain festival and stadium headliners for the rest of their career i mean look at the red hot chili peppers look at the food fighters look at kings of leon look at coldplay bands who have been putting out terrible records time and time and time and time again over and over again for literally decades at this point um with your good one here and there shout out um wasting light by food fighters and But most of the stuff they put out is appalling, and yet it doesn't diminish people wanting to go and see them at all.

And I'm even going to chuck in people like Pearl Jam, Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, The Killers, bands who have released good music.

but quite divisive music as well you know particularly looking at you Arctic Monkeys and Radiohead from that list you know they've released albums that I mostly think are good but um I didn't really like the car by Arctic Monkeys but that's for another time um but there are bands who have released albums in that list there and people have gone this isn't really very good and yet they still play massive, massive stadiums.

They were all recorded in Windmill Lane in studios, and there's no live room.

Um, so the band weren't able to play together in a studio to record, to get the vibe, whereas they chose Slane Castle.

Um, I mean, they, they did some work in...

They did some writing work elsewhere.

They did some writing work in, um, Bono's house and they did some writing work in one of the other stu- I think, I think they did some in Windmill as well.

But they chose Slane Castle to do the recording, and one of the key benefits from, strangely, Adam Clayton's perspective, he was the one that wanted a live room, he wanted to play off the others, is that the ballroom in Slane Castle has a domed roof and was designed for music.

It was designed for a live...

For live music to be played in it.

"You Miss Me" from Fontaines D.C., from their fifth album, Dopamine Chamber, released in full at midnight.

Three songs had been released in the last few weeks ahead of their big two concerts at Slane next year.

It's not often we bring you an album on the morning it's released, but it's not often one from an Irish artist is so anticipated, not just here, but globally, such is the size and reach of the band formed in a music school in the Liberties, with echoes of Radiohead, The Cure, Depeche Mode, and Nirvana, and Frank Waters, according to one of our sound ops.

It's different, difficult at times, so far pretty well-received, and we'll get the views of another Irish artist shortly.

... and I mean, I, I haven't bought, I bought tickets for Slane just a few weeks ago.

I haven't bought tickets for Slane since I bought, since 1982 when [laughs] I bought tickets to see The Rolling Stones.
