Sky island

It's powerful.

Petrified Forest, Sky Islands, Route 66.

And we're going down to the Saguaro Desert, right down there in the south near Tucson.

And what they've got there is these giant Saguaro cactuses, and they're a wonder of the desert.

But

it was like every day was something amazing.

The Sky Islands, the most biodiverse place in America.

Can you believe that though? Would you think that a place that's like not far from Tucson, Arizona is the most biodiverse place in the world? No, but once you dig into it,

... low desert, high desert, um, you know, if you get into Sky Islands, those sorts of things, so-

... especially the Chiricahuas, as you...

We have West Texas.

You know, you have the Sky Islands that out in the middle of the desert, you have this mountain range and you have Aspen and forest.

And so...

We don't have the 14,000-foot peaks or the 12,000, 13,000-foot peaks or all these fancy things that you would get in Washington or California or Colorado, but I would put...

information to, to determine where I'm going to hunt.

But when it comes to, I mean, gambles or desert really in Tucson, once you get out and you get into the foothills of, of a lot of these sky Island regions, um, you're getting into that, that washy sort of transition zone where, where you're getting a little bit grassy, um, prickly pear, um, that provides the birds with good cover.

And especially like, I like to focus on, um, around water tanks specifically or, or water sources.

Um, because it feels like in the mornings that these birds, um, they gotta be hitting water.

You think there's a new one? You think the radar got too hot and they started to lay low? They need to make a

Bioshock Sky Island.

Or a

ring like Elysium.

Of Tears of the Kingdom.

And she's, you know, the introduction Sky Island thing.

Yeah.

And then she got like mostly done with it.

Soon, they and the rest of the herd are set to be released from their mandatory quarantine and will be able to range free on around 10,000 acres.

This is the Sky Islands region, stretching from where Sonora meets Chihuahua to the south and Arizona meets New Mexico to the north.

Deserts, grasslands, and complex mountain ranges flow into one another to become one of the most ecologically diverse places on Earth.

The vision we have is that bison will roam here and do whatever they want to do, and there'll be prairie dogs, and there'll be pronghorn and elk, and there'll be anything else that has a ecological function here that used to be here that were removed, mostly by habitat destruction and human hunting.
