It's the only time I've ever spotted myself on the Sky Arts footage.

Oh, really?

For the Eagles of Death Metal show.

So you grew up in, was it Newcastle that was your hometown? Yeah.

And then, because there's been a series on telly, Guy Garvey, the Sky Arts, and there's often quite a lot of really good regional programmes from Newcastle and the North East.

Did you get to sort of go to any of those shows or were you aware of them on the telly? Because obviously being regional telly, we didn't get them down here in East Anglia.

Yeah, well, I went to the Tube, you know, when that was on.

watched a three-part documentary series called Film Noir.

It's from the same people that did the directors and all the actor studies on Sky Arts.

You know, the ones that are on there.

And it's all the same people that did it.

So I'd seen That Will Be The Day before about similar sort of timeframe to Steve about 10 years ago.

There's a channel in the UK called Sky Arts and it's a combination of all different things like film, music, literature.

And one night they just happened to be showing That Will Be The Day and I watched it on a whim and really quite enjoyed it actually.

Forgot how much I enjoyed it until I revisited it recently.

I saw Adai Garvey, kind of one of these arts on Sky Arts, and he's been sort of compiling lots of these little clips of regional television.

Oh, yeah.

And things I'd never saw before.

Someone showed a bit of belief and it makes a huge amount of difference.

We've got Phil Edgar-Jones, OBE, director of Sky Arts, who's going to give us a bit of an insight into his take on things and look at some research.

Phil, what was the show? Great to have you on board.

What's the rundown, Phil? I mean, it's always good to have someone to believe in you, isn't it, to be fair?

You know it is and this is something that particularly at Sky Arts we like to celebrate all the time is those people who've given you an encouraging word or told you you're good at something or sort of said thank you to you or pointed you in a direction maybe you didn't quite expect or you know actually helped give you a bit of confidence to do something.

I think sometimes in life we stop ourselves, we have a sort of can't do mentality sometimes don't we and we think we're maybe not capable of things and just sometimes it takes that for to say you know what you can do this and why don't you try this and I'll help you out so that's that's what we're celebrating this year as part of the Sky Arts Awards which is in its third year in this iteration and we've sort of celebrated those you know, unsung heroes of the arts this past couple of years with the Sky Arts Hero Awards.

So, you know, people who've, one person who ran a singing workshop in a children's hospital, and one person who just worked at a box office in a theatre in Glasgow, who just go that extra mile to make everyone's experience of the arts better.

So this year, we thought, what better than to celebrate those people who've, you know, pushed other people on in their careers.

you'd get like a front row seat but it's from your sitting room live in your living room oh my god but it was just like watching them like live but it was and I never forget what like I never actually like paid for it because years later they start just showing them on like Sky Arts or whatever yeah yeah And I can't remember what channel it was, but they were shown Leona Lewis Labyrinth.

Her labyrinth.

I always think it's fascinating.

Yes.

And actually, I've been, I don't know if you've recorded the Guy Garvey series on Sky Arts, where he's been digging up all these archives of regional TV shows that were played.

And then, you know, because obviously there's some in Newcastle, the North East region.

i don't know there's some in london and various other places and which i've never seen much of this footage apart from stuff from the tube obviously um but it was like my god this is incredible and seeing really amazing bands in children's tv but again people just got that access or looking like they're in the middle of a youth club and um bouncing around but it was you know it was kind of regional television at that stage in in its full glory period really
