Hi there, listener, and welcome to the second in our annual look at the best snow sports equipment available for winter 2027.

Today, we're going to be looking at the best ski boots.

Now, last week, we shared our thoughts on the best skis.

In future episodes, we'll be looking at helmets, goggles, gloves and socks.

So flex didn't used to be a thing.

Boots did not used to have a number on it.

It's a relatively recent innovation in ski boots.

I mean, I'm saying recently.

It was lovely.

still i i i like it um now we don't often get to meet face to face but we will be seeing each other at the london snow show in october al and i will be on the equipment stage on saturday the 17th going through our recommendations for the best kit to look out for at the show plus our tips for how to pick out the right equipment for you basically it will be a version of these podcasts but irl as the kids say so we look forward to seeing you there now secondly For his second time on the show after last year's Ski Boots special, I'm delighted to welcome Fraser Shan, General Manager at Profi.

And then at the end of that month.

They basically run a similar thing, but on snow.

And it's called, so that slide on snow where you can test all sorts of things, helmets, goggles, clothing, snowboards, skis, ski boots, socks, basically everything related to skiing, then we can test.

So it was a change of location for January 26.

Today, we've got some updates for you, and then you are going to hear Luke Coppa and me share some thoughts on footwear.

And by footwear, we are including things like ski boots and hiking boots and hiking shoes and running shoes and kind of flip-flops too.

So we'll give you some updates, share a little bit of news, and then let's talk about some feet stuff.

That is our agenda.

So I'll stop being sort of cryptic here.

Why don't you tell the people what we're going to be talking about here today?

Yeah, so I've been spending a fair bit of time in hiking boots after spending a lot of time writing and thinking about and doing the layout of ski boots and i can't help but think of some parallels and i'm curious if i'm the only one but for starters last year i got a new pair of hiking boots the la sportiva equilibrium trek um which i love for the most part i did finally have uh kind of realization that like i'm spending all this time in these hiking boots i also spend a lot of time in ski boots throughout the year with ski boots we're always like at the very least like get a custom insole because that's like your foundation and so i thought well home why why do i never do that with any other footwear Um, and so I had our good friend and excellent boot fitter Hunter Dagnon, uh, make me a pair of insoles for my hiking boots, which I also shove in my touring ski boots because they're expensive and I want to get us a lot of use out of them.

Um, but they were great last year and.
