Both letters contain some details of Dungannon's efforts to gather intelligence in Counties Down and Monaghan.

The executive's discourse with Dungannon can reasonably se- be seen as an attempt to corroborate intelligences received from Viscount Conway and Sir George Rawdon, who sent a letter to Dublin at the end of July sixteen forty-four detailing a conspiracy by Catholics in the counties of Monaghan and Down.

This I think is an excellent insight into the transformation of data to information to viable intelligence.

Conway and Rawdon forwarded information to Dublin Castle, either real, imagined, or fabricated.
