Nobody can give parents a single sheet to say, this is what you have to fill out, this is the order.
9:49
We are communicating with families about the social housing.
9:53
I'm on the steering group in the local authority in Cork City Council.
9:56
We've worked really hard with them, built up relationships.
10:00
They are now running a pilot on the back of all of our meetings.
10:03
And what we have done as part of the campaign is now we're reaching all of the local authorities around the whole country.
10:09
We wrote to all 31 of them at this stage, asking them to replicate what we've done in Cork with the pilots because they can.

What do we want to say to our listeners?
63:13
Yeah.
63:13
very isolated.
63:14
And like, as I said, they're all saying the same thing.
63:18
And even simple things like the guilt then for the simple things of not getting, things I suppose we take for granted, me at my age, I suppose, and that I can still do in terms of getting my sons to their, the things they love, to Special Olympics and those kind of things.
63:33
Now, we don't have transport.
63:34
We didn't, as you know, it stops now when an adult with an intellectual disability turns 18 so even if you're lucky enough to be of the age or the era where there was transport that's causing its own problems now because a lot of that is contracted out by the service provider now and it's not always reliable so if there's an issue with the contractor then there's no service for that adult because the older parent can't get the son or daughter nine times out of 10 to the service.
64:03
And then you can't do the extra activities that they love and which is very important for their social outlet, meeting their friends and their peers.
68:34
I mean, it's so frustrating that there is nothing in place even now for these
78:13
300 parents across Cork?
78:16
300 parents across Cork.
78:17
Now, we are...
78:19
We've managed to come across and we're reaching out and we're going to do a social media because obviously those parents at that age group would be priority for the Before We Die campaign because they're the ones, I suppose, facing the crisis more.
78:32
sooner.
78:33
We would have parents in their 90s and their 80s also reaching out to us so we are going to try and reach those and help them go through the application process but we are encouraging people to reach out to their service providers and get the help that's required with the social housing application form and they can help them with that process.
78:53
Now I suppose what we're finding with the campaign and we've made some progress to date in terms of meeting government officials and we have more meetings coming up Our committee-based members, Tony Murray, along with our other committee, will be meeting with Eimear Higgins again.

about 300 parents across Cork.
1:23
You have twin adult sons, Lee and Alex, and they have intellectual challenges.
1:28
That's right.
1:29
So I suppose I began my process on this for the social housing application forms and everything like that back in about 2017.
1:37
That's when my sons turned, they were coming up to age 18 and they had stated that they want to live independently.
1:45
So they know, and I obviously know because we talk about it a lot at home, that they will need support in place for them to live independently.
1:52
So I started with another two parents here in Cork going about what the process was to get them on the social housing application and to get on that list because we were advised by a CEO of the service provider at the time that this is the route to go, that they need to have their name on the social housing application and to access any support.
2:13
and everything will be provided within their community.
3:05
300 parents across
