So we are wondering what first got you interested in looking at the home through the lens of machine vision.

Yeah, I mean, thanks for having me in this strange and wonderful space, you know, a sort of living room.

I mean, it's the work that centers around the computer vision and the home start for me around like 2017-ish, 2018.

And it really, it was a departure from earlier work that I was doing that was mainly focusing on face recognition and sort of the political implications of that.

So I think this was, you know, mainly around 2012, 2013. the sort of huge NSA Snowden leaks had just taken place.

And I sort of found myself in this in-between where the technology still had to be explained and then post-Snowden it had this entirely different understanding or interpretation in the public and society at large in terms of not just the technology that is necessarily there for your convenience as in that it helps you tag your friends in Facebook photos but that it can also be used against you or simply as a tool of power and whoever wields it is important to sort of be aware of and also as a citizen perhaps sometimes you'd be in the weaker position towards these technologies and so a lot of that work then drew me into body measurements and sort of the ways that bodies have been captured, used in statistics and measured, early policing techniques of someone called Alphonse Berthiaunt in like the 1800s that was measuring the human body, but also was interested in mugshots and creating sort of these identifier, like literally cards of people that were arrested so that you could identify repeat offenders and this sort of history of the body as an object of capture.

And that sort of drew me into the world of ergonomics.

Yeah, sure.

So, I mean, the research for me started with a YouTube video from Boston Dynamics, like a robotics company that was perhaps still is to some extent quite well known for posting these videos.

videos on YouTube of the robots doing all kinds of sort of silly things, even though the technology behind it was kind of scary.

Like there was this one robot called Atlas and it's a humanoid.

And most of them are developed for purposes of assisting soldiers in the US military, either to sort of mainly to carry loads that a human couldn't into places that a vehicle couldn't get to.

And so this company made a video in 2016, I believe, to announce their new product called Spot Mini.
