Simon Callow

I I've been reading a lot about Orson Welles.

Like so there's Simon Callow wrote a three book biography about him.

And I had just been watching a lot of his films, re-watching some and watching interviews, and I'm like, I want to do it.

This guy is a blowhard, but I think he's fascinating and he's a genius, probably.

I Googled.

I was like, okay, what's up with the third book? Why does it not look like the other one? On the front page, there's this There's a link to a Guardian article about the third book, which is titled One Man Band.

And right under the name of it, it's like Review, Simon Cowell, One Man Band, Guardian.

And then there's a snippet of what looks like the review.

Okay, Alan, the sequel was 1995.

And who was the baddie in Ace Ventura 2? Simon Callow.

Simon Callow.

And the world turns.

We're back to sitcoms.

Then, as our opening song in season one says, we have two guest stars this episode.

It's Simon Callow and Andrew Buckley.

Andrew Buckley is a seasoned TV show actor with about 60 credits under his belt.

It's mostly one to three episodes, including shows like Shameless, Coronation Street and The Crown.

And Simon Callow has over 150 credits to his IMDb, including Andre in The Phantom of the Opera movie from 2003, which is where I know him from, Gareth, which is always hilarious when it's a name match, in Four Weddings and the Funeral from 1994, or various TV series appearances in The Witcher, Hawkeye or Outlander.

So we are spending budget!

Okay, I need to know who are their characters because I didn't recognize either of them.

Andrew Buckley is the animal person with the unicorn and Simon Callow is Edwin the Magnificent.

And I interviewed a lot of those people in the book.

Simon Callow, for instance.

know, David Blooming Suchet.

Seems unlikely.

And speculation that Simon Callow could be playing the Doctor.

So we get these stories a lot as I jump back into things.

But here, this is actually palpable.

We didn't see that here, but I'm sure in his other roles he was doing that aren't a thing.

Now, Simon Callow is the voice of Mr. Grasshopper, who was made a commander of the Order of the British Empire for her services to acting by Queen Elizabeth II in 99.

And he's done several films, including Shakespeare in Love, A Room with a View, and Winnie the Pooh, Blood and Honey 2.

Wow, what range.

No, I just thought, no, I don't want to do that.

So I spoke to my friend Simon Callow, the great actor, you know, and I said, who could do Hitchcock? And he said...

The best ear in the business, not the best voice, but the best ear, the best listener to other voices is a British actor called Alastair McGowan.

Uh, and, uh, Shaffer allegedly wrote the part of Mozart in Amadeus for him.

When it played originally at The National, it was Simon Callow playing Mozart opposite Paul Scofield, but when it went to Broadway, it was McKellen as Salieri and Tim Curry got to play, uh, Mozart.

And, uh, although I didn't see it, it was a long time ago, it was about 1980, uh, it, you can sense from his other performances how dynamic he was.

Shaffer's Mozart is, is electrifying, all over the place, foul-mouthed, uh, never stops.
