Finishing our local news section, fire damages Silvis Duplex.

Silvis firefighters are investigating the cause of a blaze that severely damaged a duplex early Friday morning.

According to a news release issued by Silvis Fire Chief Dave Johnson, firefighters were sent to a two-story duplex in the 1000 block of 10th Street at 2.23 a.m. for a report of a cooking appliance fire.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find heavy fire conditions involving the rear of the complex.

Occupants from both sides of the duplex were able to escape the burning building.

Crew Sr., 88, Kelowna, Illinois, passed away Saturday, August 15th at UnityPoint Hospital, Rock Island, surrounded by his loving family.

Ruth Ann Ford, 90, of Silvis, Illinois, passed away on September 2nd at Silvis Center.

Here's a Hispanic Heritage Festival to return short story.

The city of Silvis and Silvis Main Street are hosting the fourth annual Hispanic Heritage Festival, which will bring live music, cultural dances, food, and local vendors downtown on Saturday the 12th of September.

Silvis Mayor Robert Cervantes said the entertainment, authentic food, and vendors will line downtown's Hero Street from 12 to 8 p.m., and he said the dj will begin around twelve thirty p m and later the crooked cactus band is set to take the stage around four p m cervantes started the event four years ago when he was a former silvus alderman and said that since then it has grown to attract over twenty five hundred people however this year he said there will be fewer food vendors with seven food vendors and four non-food vendors as of the afternoon of September 1.

The recently opened More Caffeine will be in attendance, he said.

Festival gives Hispanic people a chance to show off their music, food, and culture to the community.

Well, in the second year, the mayor said the event was almost postponed due to the widespread fear of ICE taking local residents.

I do not foresee that to be an issue this year, Cervantes said.

The mission is free, and Cervantes said all of the proceeds raised to go to Silvis Main Street to funding raising future community events.
