I'm enjoying it.

I am also chipping away at The Bewitching, which is from Silvia Moreno-Garcia.

I've really enjoyed her stuff in part because it always brings in like an element of Hispanic or just actual Mexican culture into her work and into like fantasy and supernatural and horror elements.

Like, She wrote a book called Silver Nitrate that was about Mexican film stars of the 30s set in the 90s in Mexico City.

Okay.

So I'm currently listening to the audio of The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.

She came into popular readership with her Mexican Gothic some years ago.

um is very interestingly done like a lot more unique and complex so a mystery so i was happy to see this um minerva is the main character for this tale but it's a tale that has a modern timeline and an a more ancient timeline.

Yeah, that's so true.

I got Mexican Gothic, which I really, really want to read, by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.

The girl at Barnes & Noble, I swear they know us by face at this point, but she was saying this is a really good spooky season type of book.

Okay.

Give me a book.

So I am reading The Intrigue by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, and she writes a lot of historical fiction, but there's usually some mystery, intrigue, and sometimes some horror involved.

But she's a really great writer.

I've read a few of her books.

And I'm Lisa.

This time on Narrated, we'll be discussing The Intrigue, written by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and narrated by Andre Bello.

Before we get into our main story, last week's episode, I had mentioned Spider Noir in passing.

And do you want to give a little bit of intro for us to the intrigue?

So this is the seventh book I've read by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.

She's become an auto-read author for me.

And there are a lot of other community-specific terms out there, like Chicano for people of Mexican descent living in the U.S., or Afro-Latino for those in Latin America with African ancestry, or even Nuyorican for Puerto Ricans living in New York.

So yeah, Latin America includes lots of different communities across lots of different countries and languages, which means in literature, we find lots of different answers to the question, who are we? Some Latin American authors, like Mexican-Canadian writer Silvia Moreno-Garcia, write mostly in English.

Others write both in Spanish and English.

And some flip between languages even within the same text, like Los Rios Profundos, Deep Rivers, by Jose Maria Arguello.

Like if you don't like these books, I do secretly think you're trash when it comes to reading.

And the first, so the honorable mention is Mexican Gothic by Sylvia Moreno-Garcia.

I love that book.

I love this book.
