Silver medal

If we were to put it in marathon prizes, gold is your spirit.

Silver is your soul.

Bronze is your body.

So if you come third, you'll get bronze.

Uh, I hate doing this.

I like the Gold Medal game, I like the Silver Medal game.

I'll usually just trust you and trust you blindly.

I do not like your Bronze Medal game.

At the WorldSkills International Competition in Shanghai, China, a global stage featuring roughly 1,400 of the world's top competitors from over 90 countries, history was made for South African and African aviation.

One young South African artisan went toe-to-toe with the world's elite aerospace nations, scoring 738 points to bring home a silver medal in aircraft maintenance.

He was awarded the Best of Nation medal as South Africa's highest-scoring competitor and became the first competitor from the entire African continent to win a medal in aircraft maintenance in the 75-year history of WorldSkills.

Trained through CTU Intellect Training and Consultation at Rand Airport and currently completing his workplace apprenticeship at Solenta Aviation, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome world silver medalist Matthew Bowen.

[static] Cleared for takeoff.

[upbeat rock music] This is Let's Wing It.

[laughs] It's quite a thing.

Yeah.

So yeah, I'd say it's a solid one, even though it wasn't crammed by too many wins.

Do you, do you wanna mention how you got the nickname Silver Medal, or what, what...

Is, is that a touchy subject and we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll just, we'll just not mention at all? [laughs]

No, that's all right.

Um, when I was a junior, um, you mentioned the, uh, Junior Golf Masters and, uh, the host of this tour is a friend of mine who I've been, uh, talking to 'cause I played with his son when I was younger, and he's always been a great supporter of mine.

He was always following my tournaments that I was playing and before I won that event, I came second four or five times and he was like... whenever I came up or, like, when he was about to announce the winners, it's like, "Silver Medal goes to fourth time, fifth time," and I was like, "Thanks for reminding me." No, but it's, I just came second so many times and could not manage to win, so I got the nickname Silver Medal.

He, whenever he would see me, he would be like, "Hey, what's up, Silver Medal?" [laughs]

That's, that's-

Do you ever hear anybody say that? I mean, it's a good song.

I'm giving it to Silver.

But it's just kind of like in the middle.

It comes right after The Weekenders.

After the showing of Teeth Dreams this week, Stay Positive is still the gold, but only at 39 points.

It only picked up seven points this round.

Silver is now T-Streams with 36 points, nipping at the heels.

Nipping.
