How far back do you think we go? Because I'm curious, how long would there be traces if there was ancient civilizations in past history, say 100,000, a million years ago, 10 million years ago? How much of that evidence would be left in the ground for us to find at that point? Or would it all have dissolved into the earth?

Well, there's a really great research report that was done by NASA on that called the Silurian Hypothesis.
Heather LynnGUEST
37:02
It was named after the lizard people from Doctor Who.

So they were interested in finding the answers to that question because they wanted to know, presumably, if there could be life on other planets that they would be able to maybe detect at one point.

Yeah.

Uh, the thing is, is that the, the, the messy thing about that is that you can't actually rule that out, meaning that Earth's fossil record is so incomplete, and this is called the, uh, the Silurian Hypothesis by, uh, Dr. Adam Frank, and I think Jason, uh, Wright also came up with a variation of it, that the fossil record is so incomplete we can't tell that there wasn't a civilization here before.

We've got all our gold, though.

Well, we also have all our oil.

It's interesting that you mentioned technology that's slightly ahead of our time, because if you go back to the airwave of 1896, 1897, it seemed like the technology was just at most 10 years ahead of human technology.
Bob SpearingGUEST
28:59
That was what I've read about the Silurian theory, that maybe there's a possible second human civilization on Earth that we haven't discovered yet.
Bob SpearingGUEST
29:09
They may be at the bottom of the ocean, for example, and that their technology, because they're pretty much a sister planet.
Bob SpearingGUEST
29:17
human race inhabiting our planet that's trying to hide from us, let's say, especially with the transmedium vehicles going into the ocean all the time, that maybe they're just slightly ahead of us technologically.
