Sid Catlett

We definitely transcribed all the greats as well.

You know, even old stuff like Baby Dodds and Sid Catlett, you know, the whole gamut.

But also he was like open to me sharing new guys even with him that he hadn't heard of.

Like, oh, you should check out Chris Dave.

That was the iconic Salt Peanuts recorded by Dizzy Gillespie and his all-stars in New York City on May the 11th, 1945 for the Guild label.

Featured on the record we just heard were the legendary Charlie Parker on alto sax and, uh, Big Sid Catlett playing the drums.

But, uh, now folks, it's time for the main event, so let's start this feud, the feud between Dizzy Gillespie and Cab Calloway, which was, as you [laughs] will hear as I tell the story, in a lot of ways it was a very, uh, immature encounter that ended bad.

Now, uh, Dizzy had joined Cab's orchestra right around 1939.
