Shy Guy

So, as everybody knows, Super Mario Brothers 2 is a skin of Doki Doki Panic, a game released in Japan for the NES.

That being a very strange and not very Mario-like game at the time has now spawned a lot of stuff that we now just associate straight up with Mario, like Shy Guys, the Bob-ombs.

Mario 2's a really interesting game.

It was also really my first experience with Mario, which is a weird place to start, though I guess I also technically started with the Mario Bros. arcade game that's also packed along in this cartridge, which is very nice.

The Super Show was first to blend characters and enemies from America's version of Super Mario Bros. 2 into the Mushroom Kingdom.

The game took place in the dream world of Subcon, but its Pokies, which are sentient cactuses, Shy Guys, and Ba-Bombs would migrate over to Mario's universe in Super Mario World, called Super Mario Bros. 4 in Japan, also Yoshi's Island.

The first animated version of Luigi in the Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach was laid back and clumsy and obsessed with collecting coins.

Luigi's characterization as the more cautious and fearful brother, a hallmark of the Luigi's Mansion series, came out of the American cartoons, although the Japanese movie was responsible for making him taller.

They were starting to make steps forward, even though this was a re-skinned game, um, and essentially a clone.

And, um, we got a lot of iconic Mario characters out of this one, like Shy Guy, who's one of my favorite characters in the Mario universe, uh, came out of Super Mario Brothers 2.
