and yeah i think you make such a good point too with the lack of nuance i mean the internet of course it's not new that there's a lack of nuance on the internet but i remember even when i posted my first um video on youtube about the shy girl scandal and mia yeah ballard um and having empathy for, you know, just somebody in the position who, you know, the system is not built to protect and won't protect.

And, you know, that I feel as though the finger-pointing needs to, like, go to the system.

Like, how could the system not have caught the thing that you guys are all catching? And why is it all following, you know, on the individual? Like, Cambridge, like, should have done their due diligence, like, in a lot of ways, too.

I think we are also in a really specific era, sort of stepping back from the Jason of it all now, because this story, while it's about plagiarism, felt very familiar in the sense that I feel like I've read a similar version of this in different ways over and over again this past year or so, because it's kind of the latest in a number of scandals, some of which you've mentioned, in which a prominent person is accused of publishing work or writing work doing work that isn't their own, whether that be because people believe it is AI generated or that they were committing plagiarism.

And I will say there is a common thread between a number of these most famous examples, like some of the ones you've mentioned.

There's Shy Girl by Mia Ballard, who it's a book accused of being written by AA.

It was pulled from publication.

Boston.

In February 2025, the writer Mia Ballard self-published her second book, Shy Girl.

Pretty soon, the horror novel had the book community on Instagram shivering in a good way.

You guys, this is the most unhinged female rage type of book I have ever read in the best way possible.

It shook me to my core.
