Shrek The Musical

Do you guys know what musicals are coming up next or being recommended? Because obviously you guys do one big major production a year.

And the year before you did Shrek and this year was Legally Blonde.

Is there any area that you guys are trying to go into? I mean, I'm very

interested.

Okey-dokey, so let's start with the material on this one.

And the musical Kimberly Akimbo has been co-written by David Lindsay-Abaire and Jeanine Tesori, a creative combination who I believe first worked together on Shrek the Musical in the mid 2000s, and who in their own words were eager to collaborate again under slightly less high-pressure circumstances.

To that end, they had the idea, with David having said, uh, "I would love us to be able to write a musical the same way that I write a play," to adapt one of David's plays.

Now, Kimberly Akimbo started life as a play inspired by an anecdote that I believe he heard from a new parent saying that their baby was not unlike having, like, a little old lady around.

So they were playing a lot of songs from, uh, the Beetlejuice musical, which is not that good.

Um, [laughs] and they were playing songs from like The Outsiders and the Shrek musical and Mean Girls Musical and Heathers.

And all of those are fine, but I would prefer [laughs] they skewed the other end of the spectrum a little bit more, but we still had fun.

Are those new musicals like iconic enough to anybody who would wanna go to this club in the first place to like sing and-

What are you in now? So I'm in the next, it's not the next production.

Next production is Dracula, but the one in November and December is Shrek.

Oh, very cool.

thought I was in that show.

Was it, like, Oliver or, like, Shrek?

Well, I wasn't in either of those.

Wait.

Since that's what I was in New York, you know, doing callbacks for it.

But my second, yeah, my second Broadway show, the first one we like chose to see that wasn't influenced by that was Shrek.

Um, Which remains top five productions ever for me.

That's one of my favorite musicals of all time.

Shrek is perfect to me.

And she was not on that day.

I was very sad.

Like not those.

A lot

... you've played Donkey in Shrek the Musical, Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast, Snoopy in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, other roles [laughs] in regional theater.

[laughs] I think I would love to play, um, Jimmy Early in Dream Girls.

Okay.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I've never seen Shrek the Musical.

It's so good.
