And then just a couple of issues ago, we had the first and only appearance of Short Round.

Right.

He shows up in one issue for, I think literally one page, and that's it.

What's the best example of that?

Well, there is an entire article dedicated to Ke Huy Quan, uh, the actor who played Data in The Goonies and Short Round in Indiana Jones.

Oh, right.

The breaking news is that back in 1984, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas gave him, a 14-year-old kid, a share of the Temple of Doom profits.

It's your old pal Mitch Hallock, your official IndyCast reporter, coming at you with a reminiscence of a recent encounter I had with our friend Ke Huy Quan, AKA Short Round.

Now, I was in New York City two weeks ago, and Sh- Short Round, Ke was in town to promote his new book, Never Say Die, which is a reflection about his career, his, uh, incredible journey coming over here with his family from Vietnam in the '70s and then the early '80s, and then how he got reunited.

And then we go through the steps where he got cast in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

You might have heard of that movie.

The guy is everywhere.

And oh, like I said, I was just distracted for a minute.

So I found one of the drawings I had done back in 1984 of Ke as Short Round, and I was just thinking to myself, "Did I ever think when I was 17 years old, drawing this by hand, you know, a, a reference photo I saw in a Lucasfilm fan club magazine, maybe the Star Wars fan club newsletter at the time?" That was it.

And it's a Lao Che Enterprises plane as they're taking off.

Obviously, you know, then the next thing that happens is that he's being woken up by short round.

No more

parachutes.

And then you get that ridiculous scene of it falling down from the plane in an inflatable plane.

an inflatable thingy that's nuts runs on the mountain honestly the whole movie right from that very moment is just peppered with these sorts of action sequences but I think for me if I'm thinking about when I first watched it going back to my childhood it was the scene when they go underneath the palace in New Delhi so they've already been attacked by the two guys up in their rooms They've gone down to the catacombs underneath the palace in New Delhi.

And Indiana Jones and Short Round have found themselves in that room.

And they've accidentally leant on the wall, pressed the button, and the ceiling's slowly falling down over their heads.

At 12 years old, he auditioned for and won a part kind of on a fluke.

He went to this audition with his brother, got... a big part as Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, starring with Harrison Ford, Indy himself.

That led the very next year to a part in The Goonies, which has become a cult classic.

And so in the space of basically one year, he had two big hits.

And instead of continuing to pursue it, they're like, "We gotta get to the cavern." And they kind of just abandon Teddy to go get the dial.

I guess their, their rationale was, "Well, either we try to find him and we let them get to the dial, or we just get to the dial." But it just seems like a very un-Indy thing to do, especially after we've seen him with Short Round in the Temple of Doom, that he's just going to abandon the child to go back on the treasure hunt.

Yeah.

It, it does give it that air of like, "Yeah, we'll get him later."

But you know what? That's fine because it's a movie.

I'm there to be entertained.

I'll buy the idea that Short Round, I mean, um, uh, uh, uh, Teddy, 'cause that's really what he is, is just Short Round, but Middle Eastern.

Yeah.

Well, look, I don't, I mean, I don't wanna tell you everything that is or isn't in this book.

I will say, I also don't wanna get your hopes up.

I'll say Short Round is not in this miniseries.

Um, the, you know, I, I, I'm sure-
