Short course

Um, as of now, they're about two, three weeks away.

Uh, World Short Course at the end of the year.

Uh, and the main reason...

Two reasons for this.

I get to play again.

I get to kind of uncover something new for the 100.

Um, and then the other side of that coin is post-World Short Course from December through until May next year, um, I go back to 50 stuff, but my off-season is a gym priority.

So I barely swim.

Um, yeah, so on the, on the topic of Mr. Hugo Gonzalez, he w- uh, the Jose Finkel Trophy happened in São Paulo, Brazil.

Uh, that was a qualifying meet for the Short Course World Championships.

It was August 31st to September 4th, which is kind of interesting just 'cause we don't really see that happening anywhere else, the, the Short Course qualifiers being so early on in the season, essentially right after a lot of the big long course meets or to, like, kick off the short course meet, which is like-

Yeah

... what? September, October.

I don't think he's still at Texas, so we don't know where he is.

Obviously, he just popped that 200 IM at Euros.

But now he's, he's kicking off his short course season in a big, big way.

We have a couple, I think, opportunities to race when the college team has meets here in the fall.

And then we have the option to either do World Cup or Short Course Worlds or neither.

So I opted to do the Short Course Worlds route.

And then after my performance at Pan Pacs, I briefly said to Bob that I wasn't sure if I wanted to do Short Course Worlds anymore, and I was like, "Maybe it'd be a good idea if I just kind of put my head down and train for a while." But I'm still on the fence.

I love short course meters so much.

Um, I'd love the opportunity to travel again.

I, I love, I love traveling internationally at the end of the day, and I know that- This is such a small part of my life, and I don't know if, if I'll have the same opportunities to travel the way that I am right now.

But if I end up deciding that it's not in my best interest, then I will forego it, but I'm still trying to figure that out, honestly.

Yeah.

Do you ever, do you ever think like- With this year not being, like, an Olympic year or World Championships year, I mean, obviously we have Short Course Worlds in December, that it almost was easier to, like, "All right.

I'm gonna step back a little bit, just kind of appreciate the work that I've put in, and then kind of look forward to that next two years as we get closer to a home Olympics."

I would say throughout the year it was way easier to kind of, like, not, like, focus on the work without worrying, like, okay, like, what is...

Like, results aren't, like, automatic, so, like, there, there is, like, error on side of the swimmer, error on side of the coach, like, occasionally.

And, like, if it's gonna happen at any year of the quad where we're like, "Okay, we gotta fine-tune this and we're all gonna work as a group," like, thank goodness it happened at Pan Pacs.

You know? Like, that would really stink if it happened at, you know, even Short Course Worlds, that would be really disappointing.

So, like, having it happen at Pan Pacs versus, like, a Worlds or the Olympics and, like, if there's any two coaches out there that I know are, like, probably spent their entire two weeks off, like, figuring out, like, what happened to some of the swimmers, like, what happened to the taper or, like, the end season, what can we change.
