Shirokiya

There's actually a famous story in Japan about kimono and underwear, although it's probably more legend than the fact, but I'm going to tell it anyways.

In 1932, a terrible fire broke out at the Shirokiya department store in Tokyo.

According to the story, many of the women escaping the building were wearing kimono without Western-style underwear, so they were wearing okoshis, probably.

As they climbed down the ropes, the wind blew their kimonos open.
