That's right.

Oh, Shirley Horn.

Wearing flannel, flannel pajamas and-

Oh my God.

And this is, of course-

So here's to life.

"Here's to Life," Shirley Horn.

"Here's to Life," Shirley Horn.

Mm-hmm

... 'cause they're just, that's, that's my, that's my heartbeat, you know? Like, I love Shirley Horn, Nina Simone, Carmen McRae.

Uh, Billie Holiday was the one that really taught me, only sing what is true to yourself.

Uh, so I still am living in the songbook, definitely.

I love that.

The great jazz, uh, singer and jazz pianist Shirley Horn in, uh, when she was doing her CD Here's to Life, she speaks quite a bit about the importance of the rests in music, that that is music and language and experience in itself, and that a lot of, uh, people just sort of m- just don't maybe treasure that enough.

So I really, I love that answer.

There's an upcoming launch.

She...

Some people are saying she is the new, um, Ella Fitzgerald, or she may be the new, um, Shirley Horn.

She is, she's phenomenal.

She's...

Flute ooze from my fingertips.

Praise the oboe and trumpet and who the hell could have imagined a Miles or a Diz or a Shirley Horn and thank you and sweet journey to them all.

Plus, praise Donny Hathaway who rightly sang, giving up is hard to do.

Putting me in mind of my brother.

Here is Claude Bolling and Jean-Luc Dayan with Gardenarama from the album Jazz à la Française, 1984.

And then Shirley Horn, I Got Plenty of Nuttin' from her album, I Remember Miles, from 1998.

[piano playing]

[piano playing][piano music] Oh, I've got plenty of nothing, and nothing's plenty for me.

Continuous jazz on Jazz in the AM.

That is music by Shirley Horn.

And the name of the cut is entitled Here's Looking at You.

And the personnel on that cut, Shirley Horn on piano, Charles Ables on bass, Steve Williams on drums.

And...

Shirley Horn attended Howard University.

This lovely lady collaborated with Miles Davis, Wynton Marsalis, and Dizzy Gillespie.

Some fine trumpet-playing company there.
