Shirley Chisholm

So that's a great tip of being yourself, being authentic.

And you'll see on my LinkedIn, Randy, that I've got the saying from Shirley Chisholm that says, if they don't give you a seat at the table, bring your folding chair.

That's one of my favorite quotes.

That's a brilliant quote.

Oh, tons of people.

You know, the reason that you know me and Shirley Chisholm and Bella and Betty Friedan, we're like 12 crazy women.

There are just now so many that...

Just tons of...

we, like I said, give ourselves grace to evolve and recognize that our ability to be this evolved was because other people took steps that were highly dangerous for them at the time.

And so, you know, I think that about Gloria, I think that about Angela, I think that about Shirley Chisholm, right? Who like plenty of people would have thought she, now in the 21st century, Liz would have felt that she was a little too socially conservative.

And like, we can have that conversation.

And also, Every time I go in the Capitol, I stare at her portrait to let it fill me with the courage that I need to keep moving forward because I don't get to do this without her.

We do have some outstanding actors.

For example, the film Shirley, you know that film about Shirley Chisholm? So the actor that portrayed her husband is a Trinidadian, Michael Sherry.

I know him well and so on.

So we do have some outstanding talent.

Yeah.

She was a fierce advocate for Shirley Chisholm, who was a Black pioneering congresswoman.

We are all God's children, and the will of each of us is as precious as the will of the most powerful general or corporate millionaire.

And she actually ran for president.

I can't remember her name.

Burns for some reason keeps coming to my mind, but she played Gloria Steinem in the, in the, in the, And the girl from – the sister from Orange is New Black, she plays Shirley Chisholm.

It was really, really good.

And, you know, to be fans of people and don't know their names, that's terrible.
