So we have Shiprock High School.

They brought in a National Geographic photographer and Disney Plus filmmaker, Pete McBride, who came and shared his journey of being on the Colorado River and the water rights that he wanted our students to know and that he's learned along the way and just was really eye-opening.

And I think these students were very they were receiving that knowledge and it was just really neat to see Pete kind of tell his story from his photos and from his film that just what's going on on the Navajo Nation and some of these reservations that he encountered and the tribes that are or you know a lot of the journey was on the grand canyon so the uh it was just kind of it was just really neat that pete was able to share his knowledge with our students and what he learned and again that they just empower these students and maybe have you know start talking to some some legislators and and you know speaking up in the community and have a voice for for water rights and

Hundreds gathered at T-Wish Park in Albuquerque on Monday for the city's sixth annual Indigenous Peoples Day celebration, where former Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Shiazi Peet was among the featured guests.

Pete, who is a 2021 Shiprock High School graduate, made history earlier this year as the first member of the Navajo Nation to sign with an NFL team when he joined the Cowboys.

He played six snaps in the preseason before being released and is now a free agent.

Pete told the crowd the day is about more than his own accomplishments, emphasizing the resilience of indigenous people and his desire to inspire native youth.
