The lookout tasked with being the first to spot and warn of an approaching train was not at the designated position just before a fatal accident at a station on Tobu Railway Company's Nikko Line, sources said.

Four weed control workers were struck and killed when an inbound limited express train entered Shin-Kanuma Station in Kanuma, Tochigi Prefecture, at around ten forty-five AM on August twentieth.

The work plan called for the individual to be stationed near a level crossing about three hundred fifteen meters from the site where herbicides were being sprayed, according to the railway operator.

However, footage from the train's onboard drive recorder did not show the lookout near the crossing, nor did it capture any indication of a flag being waved, the sources said.

Four railway workers died on August twentieth after being struck by a Spacia X limited express train while clearing vegetation near Shin-Kanuma Station on the Tobu Nikko Line in Tochigi Prefecture.

At around ten forty-five AM, a caller reported that workers had been hit by a train at the station in Kanuma.

According to Tochigi Prefectural Police and the Kanuma Fire Department, the four workers were taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead.

The victims were employees of contractors working for Tobu Railway Company.

According to Tobu Railway, the train involved was a Spacia X running from Tobu Nikko Station in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, to Asakusa Station in Tokyo's Taito Ward.

It was preparing to stop at Shin-Kanuma Station when the accident occurred.

The train stopped with about two cars extending beyond the platform at Shin-Kanuma Station, apparently making an emergency stop before reaching its designated stopping position.

Four people working on railway tracks north of Tokyo have died after being hit by a train.

The accident happened at Shin-Kanuma Station on the Tobu Nikko line in the city of Kanuma.

Police and fire personnel rushed to the scene.

They found the four workers lying unconscious near the tracks or under the train.
