Shihad

[gentle music] Kia ora, welcome to the show today.

We've got the legendary John Toogood from Shihad on the program.

This was a little bit of a boyhood fantasy coming true.

I remember watching these guys at Aotea Square, and you know, they're probably one of the most sort of biggest rock groups from New Zealand of all time.

You know? But, uh, but yeah, so I did that for a while.

And then, um, like I say, I s- stopped enjoying that because of the captaincy.

And, um, that was around the time I met, um, Tom Larkin at, um, dr- the Shihad drummer at, um, Wellington High School-

Okay

I, and then just follow that rabbit hole, mate.

And, and then there's a band from New Zealand who we a- adopted during the '90s called Shihad.

S-H-I-

Yeah

Other Australian acts dropped included Rebecca's Empire Titus, Drop City, and The Foes.

New Zealand's Shihad, who was released through Polydor in Australia, were dropped.

Many of those bands were able to find new deals, but there were also changes for the alternative bands that stayed on Universal Music.

With the new staff came a new rebranding.

We do

... with the mighty John Toogood of Shihad-

Yes

... coming up to the show to chat about his new book, Home Again, a biography detailing his life, which we're very excited-

You sh- There's als- uh, sorry.

There's also a very good way with the Shihad song Home Again, with the lyric, "Put your clock, clocks back for the winter." Uh- Put the- I'm glad you said clocks.

[laughs] Yeah.

[laughs] So am I. You're dancing a bit there, Kyle.

[laughs] Sorry to hear that for you in your sleep, though.

Hey, uh, how do you feel about a bit of Shihad?

Yeah.

Let's do it.
