Sherri 'Cherry' Valance

Today's episode, we're going to be focusing upon Marcia.

When people talk about the Soc girls in The Outsiders, most of the attention goes to Cherry Valance.

She has the deep conversations with Ponyboy, and she says the famous line, "Things are rough all over." Cherry helps Ponyboy understand that the Socs are not all the same, but Cherry is not alone at the drive-in.

Marcia is there, too.

She helps us see another side of the Soc world, another side of Two-Bit, and another example of how close the Greasers and Socs can come to understanding each other before society pulls them apart.

Marcia may be in the background, but she's not meaningless.

We first meet her at the Nightly Double drive-in with Cherry Valance.

The two girls are Socs, but they're, are acting nothing like the cruel Socs Ponyboy expects.

...

even more famously Cherry Valance in The Outsiders.

Oh, yeah.

All right?

And Steve Randall, played by Tom Cruise.

And Diane Lane as Cherry Valance.

She is a Soch.

And Bob Sheldon, played by Leif Garrett, who is also a Soch.

I mean, stuff happens before that, but it's really just kind of to introduce us to the characters.

And they show up at the drive-in and Diane Lane's character, Cherry, her name is Sherry, but they call her Cherry because she's a redhead.

Cherry Valance is there.

at odds with her boyfriend in the car.

And you have Matt Dillon.

Ralph Macchio, Emilio Estevez, Diane Lane plays Cherry Valance.

Perhaps you recall the Bravery, Time Will Let Me Go song where the lyrics say, never had a Cherry Valance of my own.

Never.

I think it's worth watching The Outsiders as like a time cancel.

I performed there and I was so excited.

I was like, this is where Ponyboy met Cherry Valance.

That's right.

And everyone was like, what? Do you know my assistant doesn't know what The Outsiders is? That's crazy.
