Shepherdstown

So everyone knows the Battle of Antietam, right? That's there in Maryland.

Well, Shepherdstown, West Virginia is 10, 15 minutes down the road.

And that battle directly followed Antietam.

So it was right after it.

And this is when the Confederate forces are moving back into what was Virginia then.

And this is Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, all these things.

So the Battle of Shepherdstown took place.

Not to mention, Shepherdstown was actually the hospital for the wounded in Antietam were being moved to Shepherdstown during that time.

So she said, you know, there's no priest here.

However, next Sunday, there's going to be a guy who's going to hold church at a home in Shepherdstown.

So if you want to come with me and my family over to Shepherdstown, we can see if we can get you and do a Sunday mass.

So The next Sunday, the McSherry's and Mr. Livingston all went to the Catholic home in Shepherdstown.

And as soon as the priest, Father Cahill from Haggardstown appeared at the altar vested for mass, Mr. Livingston like burst into tears and exclaimed, that is the very man I saw in my dream.

He is the one who will relieve me.

Oh, let's see.

The banquet this year is returning to the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

We went there last year, and it was an overwhelming success.

It was a sellout.

And so because of that, we decided to go back there.

If you've never been to the Bavarian, it's right on the Potomac River in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

It's a wonderful place to stay, and they have great banquet facilities.

So we're going back there.

Whatever they had imagined in a great battle to look like, The ground around Sharpsburg showed them what it left behind.

Two days later, the regiment followed the Union pursuit toward Shepherdstown.

This is where Lee's army was crossing the Potomac right back into Virginia.

In September, the 20th Maine came under enemy fire for the very first time.

Obviously, they don't count horses as death, but I count it as like an equipment loss or something.

I would assume, yeah.

Completed to the slaughter of Antietam or the Union disaster that followed at Shepherdstown the next day, three wounded men seemed like nothing.

These were men whose names and faces were known within their companies.
