Shenandoah University

So I guess Coming out of high school, I didn't really know what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go.

And I went to college down at a place called Shenandoah University down in Winchester, Virginia.

Come from a family of, I guess, government workers, small business owners, eventually became a first generation college graduate, studied business.

And after I graduated, I was still not necessarily sure what the path was for me.

And I decided to go back right away and get my MBA, Master's of Business Administration from Shenandoah University as well.

And while there, I had a class with a gentleman who he and his business partner had just opened up their own retirement wealth management investment practice down in Winchester.

And they offered me an opportunity to work with companies and their workplace retirement plans.

Like you can have a congested area just because there's a lot of traffic.

But in this case, you've got a lot of traffic, but they have a lot of options because you could be coming out of Winchester and sitting there at the light next to what used to be Lee Jackson that is now, I think, owned by Shenandoah University.

And you could make a right and go the back way, I say, into the mall or whatever.

Get on 81 there or go up the hill, stay in your lane and stay on 50 or make a right and go to Costco on 522.

But there is just a lot of comings and goings going on in that particular spot.

Yeah, as you talked about some of them.

So a lot of folks coming off of 81 that are planning on going in, say, to visit Old Town or go to Shenandoah University or go to Apple Blossom Mall.

It all converges right there at that interchange.

She started her college coaching career as an assistant at Rowan University, where she spent the past three seasons.

Um, Tyler came to UNCW after one year as athletic trainer for Kennesaw State.

Prior to KSU, Haught spent two years at Cumberland University, um, an NAIA school in Lebanon, Tennessee, where he oversaw the athletic training program, and he graduated from Shenandoah University twice, uh, once earning his Bachelor's of Science degree in 2017, and then his Master's of Science in Athletic Training in 2019.

Um, during his undergraduate studies, he played baseball for Shenandoah, where he was a pitcher and a shortstop.

And I love when, um, athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaches have played baseball.

I'm kinda talking about it, but in your own words, um, you know, tell us a little bit about yourself and your education and how you ended up there.

Yeah, for sure.

So I'm a, I'm kind of a small-town country boy growing up, and I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley, so it was about 30 minutes from where I went to school at Shenandoah University.

Um, so I always knew basically I wanted to be involved in baseball somehow after my playing career was over.

Okay.

So I was a freshman in college at Shenandoah university.

And actually one of my friends actually posted this today and they were like, I remember where I was.

We were in racy dorm and we were, I was actually, and he said the same thing.

I was self-taught for a long time.

And then until I came up here to the Valley, I moved up here to go to Shenandoah University to study classical guitar.

Excellent.

All right.

We're starting out in September or September 22nd with Ron Medina.

He has become a real fan favorite at our open mic nights and often plays with the ensembles over at Shenandoah University.

He jokes that the conductors give him the hard parts.

He's really very impressive and just a phenomenal classical guitarist, but not in the way that you would think.
