Every Sunday just after 1.30, one of our regular reviewers checks out the latest on the big screen.

This week, Kate Roger is looking at Heart of the Beast, Shelter and Mayday.

Fresh from the US.

Oh, I wouldn't call myself too fresh, darling.

That is The Heart of the Beast starring Brad Pitt and it was shot in New Zealand but it is set in Alaska.

Get your head around that.

Okay, let's talk about the two films you've got here starting with Shelter.

This is directed by Roman Waugh who also directed Greenland Which I loved.

Films like Crank, going into the Fast and Furious franchise, even things like The Meg.

But for Statham, movies like Last Year's A Working Man or the film I'm about to talk about today, Shelter, are his stable.

That's what he likes to make.

He seems to like to make these movies that people can almost relate to in a sense.

Now, with Shelter, Statham plays a character called Mason, who at the beginning of the film is living on an island.

At first, we think he's a lighthouse keeper, but we later learn that this lighthouse hasn't been operational for years.

His only visitors are a man who we become known as Uncle, played by Michael Schaefer, and a young girl, Jesse, played by Bodie Ray Breathnach, who brings him food and supplies every now and then.

That then also stirs up the interest of Roberta, played by Naomi Ackie, who has just taken over the head of MI5 and is wondering who is making orders below her or is it above her in a secret kind of pact.

I struggled with films lately, find- finding something.

I watched, um, Shelter.

Classic.

Yeah.

I'm gonna give it to you just because I don't want it." And you know, I watch Reacher, watching other shows on Amazon and everything else, and I'm watching a couple of movies, you know, and they still...

When I watched, uh, Punched Up! Shelter, and I was watching Shelter o- o- o- over the weekend, it starts with an ad, but it gives me the option, I have to, you know, use my clicker, hit the down arrow, skip, push enter, right? But they still, it still shows up on my screen.

Yeah.

It's so generic, but I'd still watch it.

So that's Shelter.

I give it two and a half stars.

What else did I want to talk about? Last night, I watched a movie called Shelter with Jason Statham.

And it was okay.

Anyway, tangents aside, I think in general, comparing this to Shelter, because I think there's two kinds of Stathams.

There's the isolationist Statham, who's like awesome, so like beekeeper.

Shelter's like, I'm just going to do my own thing.

Everyone leave me alone.

I don't want to be reactivated.
