There's, there's nothing in the bill language that says only Black mothers can benefit from this, but it's so regularly cast off as special treatment or preferential, and maybe it's because the, the bill package is called the Birth Equity Act, and we know in our current political climate that equity is a four-letter word, but those bills never got a hearing.

And I spoke with Madison Representative Sheila Stubbs, who's been introducing them every year since she was elected, like, more than seven years ago.

That is one example of accountability that I might not be able to reach the chairs of those committees that have refused to hear these bills, but I can identify that these bills never got to a hearing, despite the fact that Sheila Stubbs is on the health committee.

And she told me specifically that, you know, serving on this committee didn't help her own bills get a hearing-
