Sharp Pins

We started the set with The Tubbs and Hard Life.

We followed it up with another buzzy, cool band that I've been listening to for the last couple years and playing on the pod, Sharp Pins out of Chicago.

That's Kai Slater's band, and they have a brand-new third album, Lo-Fi Rock and Roll, and we heard the song B-A-B-Y, Baby Love, From it.

Yeah, so Parking, we're always looking for newer, younger bands.

Last year, the Sharp Pins played with super power pop style band.

Parking is not a power pop band.

They're much more abrasive, kind of post-punk type of thing.

They're just amazing on stage from what I could see.

I've never seen them live, but their songs were killer and they just brought a whole energy that I think no other band is really bringing for the festival.

How did you hear about them? Just kind of in this realm of the Sharp Pins and other bands, like video channels, like on YouTube and stuff, finding out about bands that way and then going, oh my God.

Okay, well, let's play Siren, which is a song off the Portraits LP.

I'm sorry that Automation kicked in Pete's beautiful, breathtaking vocal there.

Who needs Roger Daltrey, you know what I mean? For that, Sharp Pins, a new song, Live Without Her Love.

Not sure how I didn't find that one until now.

I love that song, and the A-side is awfully good as well, though most things Kurt Baker does are pretty awesome.

Before that, we heard from Sharp Pins and the song B-A-B-Y, Baby Love.

That's on his album Mod Mayday 23, which originally came out, I think, probably back in 23, though has just been re-released September 4th of this year on Perennial Records.

This track was originally on the legendary Mods Mayday 79 album.

This is his very delightful lo-fi, 60s-ish, jangly but still swaggering.

It's his take on Squire's classic Live Without Her Love.

For my second pick, when you have a 21-year-old wunderkind making a song that sounds like Lenny K would have selected it for the Nuggets compilation way back in 1972, well, I'm on board for that, too.

And that artist is Sharp Pins.

That is Kai Slater behind Sharp Pens.

Rachel and I saw them live a couple of months ago.

There was maybe 50 people in this small club revival in Asheville, and I definitely hope to see him again sometime, and I also will say, hey, I once saw Sharp Pens with 50 people in a small club, so...

Very cool.

On July 8th, Sharp Pins put out a single called Saturday Sun.
