Shamima Begum

Me and my sister, I called her after this movie for various reasons, including the Rachel of it all.

But our conversation quickly moved to Shamima Begum.

And when you look at the story of Shamima Begum, She was a young British, I want to say British Bangladeshi girl, who essentially was exploited and moved over to be, I think, one of the wives of ISIS or to work for ISIS.

But this happened.

If you look at who she was, she was never someone with power.

But it does make me think that we've got to take isolation and radicalisation seriously.

Also, if we take Emma's journey is an example.

And just briefly to go back to what you said about Shamima Begum there, one of my best friends did, I was going to say did her dissertation, one of her many dissertations.

Is he as British or as English as you? No? Why? Because you just set that standard.

I know Jacob Rees-Mogg has been arguing for quite some time and people have had to tell him, shut the fuck up about Shamima Begum.

But Shamima Begum deserves to be brought back because she has a British passport.

It's somehow this sacred artefact that confers upon you this inalienable status that no matter your behaviour, no matter how exploitative or contemptful you are of our people and our state, you get to come back here and live off of our largesse.

Is there a chance any of those folks could be engaging with American or allied forces? So it's much more of a complicated world than it was when the lines were very clearly drawn as to who were members of a terrorism group, right, and those affiliations that were designated, or they weren't, right? And it is definitely harder now to sift through that.

It's a world of terrible moral ambiguity, isn't it? So we had an experience in the UK with a young girl who was radicalized by IS, Shamima Begum, who traveled to joined IS and married an IS fighter and subsequently had her citizenship terminated by the United Kingdom and is no longer a UK citizen and therefore cannot come back to the UK.

It's controversial because she was only a child when she was radicalised.

It's about one of the biggest missing-person cases of our time, and it's from the BBC and NPR's Embedded.

That's why the whole Shamima Begum case.

She was basically one of these people who fled, who joined ISIS in 2014, who ran off to join ISIS.
