Gila Fine is a lecturer of rabbinic literature, exploring the tales of the Talmud through philosophy, literary criticism, psychoanalysis, and pop culture.

She serves on the faculties of Shalem College, the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies, the Tikvah Scholars Program, the Nachshon Project, and the London School of Jewish Studies.

And she has taught thousands of students at conferences and communities across the Jewish world.

Gila is the recipient of the Maimonides Award for Excellence in Jewish Education.

They have a, a base knowledge of context and raw fact and information that's crucial for allowing that well-honed, razor-sharp brain to do something.

And I, I think when we think about, and now let's move away from civil service and Royal Navy, when we think about what is the purpose of, of education, whether-- let's start with, you know, K through twelve or college.

You know, I, I like to believe that what I do here at Shalem College is, quote, "Help my students learn how to think." Now, you could make fun of that and say, "Well, but that's an amorphous skill that doesn't transfer to lots of things." And yet I think when our students deal with, say, the Iliad or the Odyssey or Plato or Aristotle, they don't read them in the original languages.

They usually read them in translation, but they learn some, actually, some of the, the Greek.
