Very often, we can see a pattern in what has come before.

So outside of having consumed food, When it's emotional hunger, it's the same compulsion or the same impulse we get to check our phones or the same impulse we get to change how we feel quickly with whatever action it is.

And so it can be helpful to think about what happens on a day-to-day to make you want to change how you feel quickly.

And often, like now, for example, I used to use food to change how I want to feel quickly.

And now I can see even more vividly when I was eating emotionally because it's in those same moments that I want to grab my phone or shop or whatever the other things that I do might be.

So when I started restricting, I was living off dry bread and bananas and And there are so many different rules and it seems that our brains find safety in being able to cling on to this polarised way of thinking, really.

Yeah, and the people who are at higher risk of developing eating disorders, for example, neurodivergent people, that splitting, that black and white thinking is both incredibly helpful, but put in the context of moral failure, can bring about the beginning of a really shame-based spiral.

And so when I'm helping people to lose weight, which ultimately I am, by undoing what they wouldn't have started doing had they not tried to lose weight in the first place... it's really hard to get the balance right because the guidelines are incredibly important.

Plus a lot of us started so early that we literally don't know what to eat.

I come across very few people who don't, who actually, if they're honest, have ever changed the way they eat formally without thinking about their weight, which is extraordinary.

Even just considering how much more we know about health and how many more options we have and the fact that you're Your options are different to when you're at uni or when you're at home.

We have all these options and yet I have yet to come across a woman who has formally changed the way she eats and not thought about the impact it will have on her weight.
