Last week, US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gore, visited Jammu and Kashmir and met with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

This was the first voluntary visit by a US ambassador to Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article three hundred and seventy.

In his remarks in Srinagar, Gore said that Jammu and Kashmir is an important part of India, reaffirming New Delhi's longstanding position on the union territory.

So to understand the US position on Jammu and Kashmir since twenty nineteen, the significance of Gore's visit and his remarks for India and what they could mean for the India-US relationship, my colleague Niharika Nanda speaks with The Indian Express's diplomatic affairs editor, Subhjeet Roy.

Subhjeet, can you walk us through what all happened while Gore was in Kashmir?

He also described Jammu and Kashmir as an important part of India and said this was his first visit to the region.
