Sequatchie County

Again, I've not heard.

I've lived in Sequatchie County for 14 years.

I heard nothing from Scott Desjardins, our congressman, fourth district forever.

And here recently I've gotten a bunch of stuff, got this one in.

Let me start here.

I've lived in Sequatchie County for 12 years.

Last June, it was 12 years.

This is the very first message, communication, any kind of anything I've ever gotten from our congressperson, Scott Desjardins, fourth district congressperson.

She had made the journey that millions of immigrants make, seeking opportunity and a better future in the United States.

Sylvia had settled in Lewis Chapel, a small rural community in Sequatchie County, Tennessee, on Lewis Chapel Mountain.

This is the kind of place where everyone knows everyone, where people wave to each other on country roads and Sunday church services are a cornerstone of community life, where people don't lock their doors at night, and where violent crime is something that happens elsewhere.

To her neighbors and fellow churchgoers, Sylvia was exactly the kind of person any community would be lucky to have.

Neighbors later told investigators that David and Gabriel seemed to have a loving relationship, that Gabriel was a regular kid, that nothing seemed amiss.

But appearances, as this case would prove, can be devastatingly deceptive.

On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, deputies from the Sequatchie County Sheriff's Office received a call that would set a horrifying chain of events into motion.

Someone had reported concerns about Sylvia Vilches.

And then we're actually playing the teams that's in our district for TMSA, Tallahoma West, Tallahoma East, Franklin County North and South.

And then at the bottom of our schedule where you see like the January 14th or whatever, we'll have a tournament with the other teams that's across the mountain, Bledsoe County and all of them, Sequatchie.

And, you know, whoever wins that will get the chance to advance to, you know, regions or sectionals.

Gotcha.
