A black criminal defendant gets a longer sentence, anywhere from 12 to 20% longer than a white criminal defendant who committed the same crime.

What he didn't say is the same Sentencing Commission said that the reason for this is that the average black criminal defendant has more convictions.

And judges, no matter the race of the judge, takes that into consideration when it comes time to sentencing.

Guardian newspapers, GB News, The Mirror, all the people for so many years, two decades, have relished every terrible story about me.

She was charged on September 8, 2020 with murder, two counts of felony murder, level 3 felony conspiracy to commit armed robbery, level 3 felony armed robbery, class A misdemeanor theft, level 6 felony pointing a firearm, and class A misdemeanor carrying a firearm without a license.

The state then amended the charging information to include a level 6 felony theft charge which made her eligible for an enhanced sentence because of the use of a firearm in the commission of a robbery.

Claiming Joshua Ungersma was shot in the back, asking for help, and that his gun was already in his pocket when Jalen Billups shot him, the prosecution stated that she committed a cold-blooded murder and tried to blame both victims to cover up her crime.

The defense argued that there was never a robbery attempt that night, and that Jalen shot Joshua in a, quote, sudden heat after seeing Alberto murdered in front of her.

When it came to the firearms enhancement, she decided to waive her right to a jury trial.

Finding the enhancement did apply, to avoid double jeopardy concerns, the trial court entered a judgment of conviction only on the charges of murder, one count of felony murder, Level 6 felony theft, and Class A misdemeanor carrying a firearm without a license.

With the victim's wife, Jenny Ungersma, speaking about how Joshua's death affected her and their children, and the state pointing out several conduct violations that she had racked up while incarcerated already, one side claimed that Jalyn lacked remorse and deserved the harshest sentence possible.

The other side with Jalyn testifying about her difficult childhood, her young age, and acknowledging the pain she caused the families, asking for leniency.
