Selwyn Jepson

The story was set in London's theatrical world, with Wyman playing a young drama student trying to discover whether a celebrated stage actress, played by Dietrich, had committed the murder her friend is wanted for.

The picture was based on a novel by British writer Selwyn Jepson called Man Running.

Whitfield Cook wrote the screenplay, while Hitchcock's wife and longtime collaborator, Elma Revel, helped adapt the novel for the screen.

By now, Elma's role in Hitchcock's filmmaking had changed considerably from their early years together in Britain.
