So RAGES results in all these bad things inside your body.

Adhesion molecules, E-selectins, vascular adhesion.

I put all that in because I'm a cardiologist.

It's to do with my blood vessels.

They are designed to bind to corresponding molecules on the vessel wall.

Specifically, E-selectins and P-selectins.

Right.

E-selectins, which are expressed on the endothelial cells lining the blood vessel during inflammation, and P-selectins, which are deployed from plateless and endothelial bodies.

This initial transient interaction creates what the text calls rolling adhesion.

Exactly.

When the local endothelial cells near the infection site are bathed in inflammatory cytokines like IL-1 and TNF, they dramatically upregulate the expression of these E-selectins on their surface, like tiny microscopic hooks.

So they stick out into the bloodstream.
