Seiðr

It's all connected.

And this interdependence extended to practical magic known as Seidr.

The völvas, the female seers, they held immense spiritual authority.

So they were like community leaders in a way.

And one of the things that I found fascinating was that Odin is a magic worker, right? Which is very weird for a Norse culture.

So the Norse concept of magic is a word they call Seithr.

It's the ash, the D with the cross atop it.

That means the ghost.

We find them present at the birth of children when they seemed to represent the Norns.

They acquired their knowledge either by means of Seid during the night while all others in the house were sleeping, and uttered their oracles in the morning, or they received sudden inspirations during the singing of certain songs appropriate to the purpose, without which the sorcery could not perfectly succeed.

These Seid women were common over all the North.

When invited by the master of a family, they appeared in a peculiar costume, sometimes with a considerable number of followers, e.g., with fifteen young men and fifteen girls.

For their soothsaying they received money, gold rings, and other precious things.

As introductory to the Voluspa, the following description of a wandering Vala, or prophetess, may be thought both desirable and interesting.

Most importantly, Freya was the mythical master of Sæðr, an ecstatic shamanic form of Norse magic that allowed the practitioner to alter reality here into the future and weave protective illusions around warriors in battle.

According to the Ynglinga saga, it was Freyja who first taught this high art to the Allfather Odin himself.

In the Norse worldview, protection was less about asking a goddess to intercede and more about channeling that divine iron-willed authority through physical characters, known as the Runes.

And Velvas were these shamanic witch priestesses of the Norse tradition.

So she here is the one who embodies the power of Seidr magic.

And she then traveled the world, teaching the women Seder, so they could awaken their inner feminine magic too.

Freya has a golden necklace, Brisingamen, her jewel of flames, which was forged by four dwarves, representing the four directions of west, north, east and south.

Hmm.

Or could be an unexplained pull towards Seidr magic, trance work, or any kind of prophetic practice.

All right, how to work with Freyja.

Self-worth and desirability work, especially reclaiming it after, again, like any kind of loss or diminishment.

... is Freyja work.

For sure.

Seidr trance work or prophetic or intuitive magic, war magic or fierce protection-

You got a Fairchild 1.0, a Fairchild 2.0, a Fairchild 3.0, and then a unique big Fairchild along the lines of Susanoo no Mikoto or Wotan.

But what is Fairchild? The Wikipedia entry on Freya says, "In Norse mythology, Freya, Old Norse for 'the lady,' is a goddess associated with love, beauty, fertility, war, gold, and seidr, S-E-I-D-R, seidr, magic for seeing and influencing the future." Interestingly, there was an ID called Seidr Laboratories for HB in Terminal Directive.

So that must have come from here too.

There are numerous names for these different gods, for like Freya, for example.
