Second Coming

Moses and Elijah were with Christ on the mountain.

It was a miniature picture of the second coming.

Moses died, but he was resurrected.

Elijah was translated.

And we understand this as Latter-day Saints because of the doctrines of the Restoration that this will or has occurred, will occur or has occurred at Adam-ondi-Ammon, because that is very clearly prophesied in our restoration prophecies.

And it talks about this in the Doctrine and Covenants, that All the patriarchs and every prophet of every dispensation that has their keys of their dispensation will meet together in Adam-ondi-Ammon, and that will include the prophet of the current time when this happens, and will give their keys back to Jesus Christ in preparation for the second coming.

Now, as I have said, this may have already happened.

We don't know.

But either way, they're not going to put it in the news.

They're not going to announce it in conference because this is a sacred meeting that is reserved for the prophets.

I just repeat what I've said before in quoting Elder Bruce H. McConkie, that we could more appropriately talk about Christ's second comings, because it is not just one coming.

The coming in glory is the big finish, and that's the destruction of the wicked and the beginning of a millennium.

Two, the Mosaic dispensation, from the giving of the law to the birth of Christ, Exodus chapter twenty to Malachi chapter four.

Three, the Christian dispensation, from the birth of Christ to his second coming, Matthew to Revelation.

Seven dispensations.

In each of these, man is put in a given state or condition, has a responsibility in it, fails to meet the responsibility, and suffers consequent judgment.

All of the Old Testament was written during this period.

The time covered, BC fourteen ninety-one to AD thirty-four, equals one thousand five hundred and twenty-five years.

Six, the dispensation of grace, from Calvary to the second coming of Christ, Acts chapter eight to Revelation.

Grace is God giving instead of requiring righteousness.

I was raised a Baptist in a dispensationalist mode, and so this being caught up together, the Latin for caught up is raptis.

So we had this notion of the rapture that this was talking about a second coming of Christ.

It wasn't the final coming of Christ, but that is really not what's going on here.

It's widely believed that the two epistles to the Thessalonians are some of Paul's first letters written in an early period when the Christians were expecting the imminent return of the Lord and for this reason Paul teaches them about the return of Christ but urges them not just to be thinking about it and looking forward to it but to be busy with the good works as they wait and we have one of Paul's most explicit teachings about how the second coming of Christ is going to take place and we'll dig into that a little further on the other side of the break

Rob, let's pick up where we left off.

You have to turn from disbelief to belief indeed.

But Roy Shulman's book called Salvation is from the Jews, a direct quote from our Lord Jesus Christ, will give you the history of the Jewish people from Abraham right through to the Second Coming.

They have a part in the Second Coming.

The Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a proclamation to the world, gives this promise.

We testify, those who prayerfully study the message of the Restoration and act in faith will be blessed to gain their own witness of its divinity and of its purpose to prepare the world for the promised Second Coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In the Book of Mormon, Laman and Lemuel often treated their relationships with family and God as transactional.

Speaking to their brother Nephi, "...and thou art like unto our father, led away by the foolish imaginations of his heart.

How exciting this is going to be! We have been putting up Christmas trees and decor little by little.

you know these mistletoes and bells christmas bells and and we've started to listen to christmas uh carols in in my house wow this is very exciting so today we read our lord and the church trying to help us prepare for the second coming of our lord you know that very well right the uh preparations and celebration of christmas that is to say that we are commemorating the arrival of our lord after so many centuries the savior has finally arrived well this is all a dry run for the second coming of our lord we need to be prepared for that and we just don't know when so we have this regular um drill, so to speak, like a fire drill or earthquake drill or one of these calamity emergency situations that schools train for, organize themselves for, you know, evacuation sites and corridors of passage and how the students and the rest of the faculty personnel would behave.

Well, the gospel tells us in chapter 16 of St. Luke, verses 9 to 15, A certain continuation and clarification of yesterday's gospel regarding that steward who was removed from his stewardship and he, from his spirit of initiative, repaired it and thus earning his master's commendation.
