Sebastián Piñera

What was the lesson from that, and what impact do you think that it had on their reputation? What impact do you think it had on the culture?

Since return to democracy in nineteen ninety, I think Chile had essentially left-wing governments up until two thousand and ten, which was when we had our, our first kind of more right-wing government under Sebastian Piñera, and then it flipped back more left wing under Bachelet and, and then flipped back again to Sebastian Piñera.

So in Chile, just a bit of context, presidents can only have one term at a time.

They're allowed two terms in total of four years, but they can't have consecutive terms.

So what happens is the country flip-flop between kind of center-left under Bachelet and center-right under Sebastian Piñera.

After the pandemic, the choice was between Gabriel Boric, who for probably Chilean standards and US standards particularly, would be seen as kind of like far left.

The European standards, it'd be like more left of center.
